Accessibility Statement
AssistIndependence is committed to ensuring our website is accessible and usable by everyone, regardless of ability or technology.
Our Commitment
Accessibility is not just a technical requirement for us — it's central to our mission. We believe that everyone deserves equal access to information that helps them live safely and independently. We are committed to meeting or exceeding the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standard.
What We've Done
We have taken the following steps to ensure accessibility across our site:
- Semantic HTML: We use proper HTML5 elements (header, nav, main, footer, article, section) to ensure content is structured logically for assistive technologies.
- Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements — links, buttons, forms, and menus — are fully navigable using a keyboard alone.
- Skip navigation: A "Skip to main content" link is provided as the first focusable element on every page.
- Focus indicators: All interactive elements have visible focus states to help keyboard users track their position on the page.
- Color contrast: We maintain a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for all text, meeting WCAG AA requirements.
- Alt text: All meaningful images include descriptive alternative text. Decorative images are marked with empty alt attributes or aria-hidden.
- Form accessibility: All form fields have associated labels, and error messages are announced to screen readers using ARIA live regions.
- Responsive design: Our site works across all screen sizes and devices, with a minimum text size of 16px for body content.
- Reduced motion: We respect the
prefers-reduced-motionsystem preference and disable animations for users who have enabled it. - Readable content: We use clear, simple language with generous line spacing (1.5x minimum) and left-aligned text for readability.
Assistive Technology Compatibility
Our site is designed to be compatible with:
- Screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack)
- Screen magnification tools
- Voice recognition software
- Keyboard-only navigation
- High contrast mode and custom color schemes
Known Limitations
We continuously work to improve accessibility. Currently known considerations include:
- Some product images sourced from third-party retailers may have limited alt text. We improve these as we identify them.
- Third-party retailer websites linked from our affiliate buttons are not under our control and may have their own accessibility limitations.
Feedback and Reporting Issues
If you encounter any accessibility barriers on our site, we want to hear about it. Your feedback helps us improve. Please contact us with:
- A description of the issue you encountered
- The page URL where the issue occurred
- The browser and assistive technology you were using (if applicable)

Continuous Improvement
We view accessibility as an ongoing process, not a one-time effort. We regularly review our site against WCAG guidelines, test with assistive technologies, and incorporate feedback from our users. Our goal is to ensure that everyone — regardless of ability — can use AssistIndependence to find the products and information they need.
